As 2025 draws to a close ZZ Music would like to thank all those who support the events we feature in our newsletter and website. In the last 40 years, the accordion has made incredible strides in the UK and abroad. It is now recognised as a legitimate instrument in many conservatoires around the world and regularly features in orchestral music in ensembles of all sizes from symphony orchestras to chamber ensmbles and from pit orchestras in theatre to the silver screen. Can you believe its 40 years this year that Owen Murray first convinced the Royal Academy of Music to accept the accordion? He's still there producing excellent students each year who go on to have glittering careers. Scotland too can boast its successes at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland now where Djordje Gajic has recently produced high-profile accordionists too. And because you go along and support their concerts and any concert that we feature, it means that accordionists can enjoy a busy professional career too. This is not taking anything away from it's traditional music stomping ground where it has always featured. Please continue to support any accordionist wherever they perform and do buy their recordings (or listen to them on digital platforms) as they are an important part of their income. ZZ Music would also like to thank all those who have bought our accordions, new and used, those who have repairs done and those who attend their regular lessons with us, and those who buy our books, recordings and sheet music. A quick reminder that there are still a few tickets left for The Romano Viazzani Ensemble Christmas Concert at St James's Church Sussex Gardens, for their Christmas concert on 19th December. The Royal Academy of Music has an Accordion Chmaber Music concert in January, Ben de Souza has some dates for 2026, and there is also a festival of Mesopotamian music which includes accordion in the shape of Sawsan Al-Rawe in January too. The Romano Viazzani Ensemble have announced their participation (with dancers) at Newbury Spring Festival so save the 19th May date until tickets go on sale. If you're on the hunt for last minute accordion-related Christmas presents do check out our website and we will endeavour to get them to you by Christmas. Have a wonderful Christmas and we'll see you again in 2025 for a happy and musical New Year.
