A fabulous new approach to playing Celtic Music on Free Bass Accordion
For a long time now most folk music, whether it be Celtic, Eastern European, Italian or any other easily recognisable folk music has always been notated with a melody line, some chord symbols and that’s it. Nothing wrong with that as most folk music is handed down from one generation to the next aurally. However it does mean that beginners to the genre really don’t have a clue where to start, and also, the music itself can never feature as a piece in a graded examination or a competition because it lacks dynamics and other performance details that are usually require when interpreting a piece of music for those purposes. Now, a truly fabulous book Celtic Music for Free Bass Accordion – by the Danish accordionist Rune Cygan Barslund has come along which treats folk music with a completely modern approach and with the greatest of respect, and about time too! There are extensive notes at the beginning of the book which really help with the interpretation and technical quirks of the music. The pieces are in 3 chapters: Music from Ireland; Music from Scotland; Original Compositions. These beautifully arranged pieces have properly written-out left hand parts but also have chord symbols so a traditional approach is still possible and although the book says “For Free Bass Accordion” there are many instances where standard bass and chords are used. Therefor, they can be used in an educational capacity too. ZZ Music cannot recommend this book more. Currently only available in hardback form hence the price but it’s a really good quality book that will last forever. Preface by Karen Tweed.
ZZ Music would like to congratulate Rune Cygan Barslund for this top quality piece of work. BUY HERE
