Probably dating to the 1960s this truly a fabulous instrument made with the wonderful precision typical of the factories in Stradella and equipped with super quality “A mano” reeds this instrument has a fabulous sound.  The 16′ cassotto sound is warm but has plenty of punch and edge too. The rest of the reeds are out of cassotto but they are powerful and sweet sounding. Two 8′ sets of reeds are bright and with their American-swing tuning means that they don’t so much have any kind of vibrato, but instead, just a slight fatness, and create a sound akin to that used in modern French musette music.  The 4′ piccolo set of reeds is bright and punchy. A  very handsome period instrument would attract the collector of instruments from the golden era of accordion-making but one that can be used by a professional seeking a single cassotto accordion. This instrument is in excellent condition and has just been serviced tuned and sounds a lot better than many modern professional instruments. The bass is powerfull and offers 4 different timbres from it’s two, double-action registers.

Cooperativa L’Armonica of Stradella was one of the first manufacturers to break away from the first accordion factory in Stradella, the world-famous Dallapé. In the 1930s, they sold many accordions in the UK and in the days when Ranco was known as the Rolls Royce of accordions, the Cooperativa was known as the “poor-man’s Ranco” because is was a high quality, robust accordion at a slightly more affordable price. A completely different Cooperativa factory produced quality accordions in the city of Vercelli and was not connected with Cooperativa L’Armonica in Stradella. Cooperativa from Vercelli, still exists today alongside its sister brands of Coopé and Cooperfisa.  Sadly Cooperativa L’Armomica from Stradella ceased trading in 1975.
