The Romano Viazzani Ensemble announce new dance project research for future film for London Tango (ballet)
Acclaimed classical, jazz and Latin American music Ensemble announce a new dance collaboration in London Tango (Ballet), a captivating narrative dance work for the 21st century city.
What happens when a partnership becomes a love triangle, then a complex web of friendship and more – and the action all plays out on the dance floor? Welcome to the Midnight Milonga, where Londoners are drawn to reinvent the Argentine heart and passion of Tango with a uniquely local spirit.
London Tango is an intoxicating new tango-ballet inspired by the music of The Romano Viazzani Ensemble and composed by internationally renowned musician Romano Viazzani, under the artistic guidance of Kate Flatt OBE (Les Misérables, Opera North). The Romano Viazzani Ensemble are proud to announce that rehearsal will begin in Winter 2023 to bring the world of London Tango to life in new ways, including a live performance and short film. Choreographed by Amir Giles (Mr Selfridge) and directed on film by Mike Figgis (Leaving Las Vegas, Internal Affairs), the project will also feature powerhouse performances from Mina Ojeda, Giraldo Diomar of the Corrientes Social Club and Dance School alongside Lesta Woo and Touchdown Dance.
London Tango puts the rich social and underground tradition of Tango under the spotlight. This is the first dance project being developed by The Romano Viazzani Ensemble, creating a new way for audiences to experience the flair and atmosphere created by these acclaimed and virtuoso live performers. By also bringing together professional and community dancers, this performance celebrates the beauty, intensity and diversity of Tango in the 21st century city.
