Royal Academy of Music – The Spirit of Tango – Concert

The internationally renowned Bandoneon virtuoso performs alongside Academy string, piano and accordion students with a programme inspired by tango music. Mario Stefano Pietrodarchi is one of those rare beasts who plays accordion and bandoneon.  He has been working with accordion students on their interpretation of Piazzolla and other Tango-related music. Pietrodarchi plays the chromatic bandoneon which many accordionists find easier to adapt to than the most common “bi-sonoric” variety used in Argentina. This gives him a unique insight into both instruments and in translating bandoneon phrasing onto the accordion. As a performer Pietrodarchi is always a joy to listen to and the accordion department were very impressive too in the last Spirit of Tango event.
