Accordionist Ben de Souza features as Royal Academy of Music students present a concert of Russian Chamber Music at Chetham’s School of Music, Manchester. Time and ticket details TBC.

Join the West Forest Chamber Ensemble and Royal Academy of Music accordion student Ben de Souza as they demonstrate the versatility of the classical accordion and its transcription repertoire. Featuring Mozart’s Rondo and Adagio for glassharmonica (KV 617), Dvorak’s Six Bagatelles for 2 violins, cello and harmonium (Op. 47) and a selection of Mozart’s Church Sonatas (K328, K67, K336) for 2 violins, cello and organ, this concert will showcase the sound of the accordion and its similarities and differences with the instruments for which these pieces were written.

All  accordionists, friends, family and all those interested in accordion music are welcome to the friendly informal Summer concert.

This is an opportunity for our accordion students to perform some of the pieces they have been working on this term. There will be solos, duets, trios and group pieces (in a variety of musical styles) from players of all ages and levels of experience.

There will be two sets of approximately 45 minutes of music, with refreshment break, raffle and plenty of opportunity to chat with other accordionists and friends. The evening will finish by 10pm. Tickets are not sold for these events and admission is free. However, the organisers kindly ask for donations for refreshments and for your support of raffle on the night, to cover the cost of the hall hire.

Accordion lessons will finish for the summer on 10th July and start again on Monday 18th September 2017 – new timetable to follow shortly.

 Aims of this workshop;

 To enable accordionists who are already playing accordion to a basic standard in their own front rooms, the opportunity to meet up with other accordionists in the area, to work on playing some tunes together and pick up some tips and ideas to progress their playing.

 It will be informal and fun (hopefully!) and no-one will be under any ‘pressure to perform’.  On the day, we will work on 6-8 tunes together and I will offer support, advice, ideas for how to play the tunes and tips for playing together with other accordionists.  There will be plenty of breaks for chats and refreshments.

    2. The monetary prize is awarded to the laureates of 1 prize, who collected more points (98-100)
    3. The monetary prize is awarded if at least 3 participants in the category
    4. In case of an equal number of points in the category winners, the monetary prize will be divided into equal parts
    5. The jury can give special prizes, 1 Grand Prix in each group of instruments (pianoforte, strings, wind, folk).
    6. Decisions of the jury are final and not subject to revision.

The Romano Viazzani Quintet is happy to present the live recording of their debut performance with this line up at The London Encounter in 2016 with Romano Viazzani on Accordion, Corinna Hentschel on Violin, Jonathan Preiss on Guitar, John Bailey on Piano, Yaron Stavi on Double Bass. The ensemble specialises in traditional Argentine and European Tango and other related music and is planning a tour at the end of 2017 and into 2018.

Originally billed as Joanna Strand and Jacqui Tate but due to her current commitments in Les Miserábles Jacqui Tate will be unable to perform this time round. However Joanna Strand in cabaret will take you on trip through some of the many songs she has been associated with in the past and that have featured in her albums as well as one or two new ones. She will be ably assisted on accordion by Romano Viazzani, on Piano by John Bailey, on drums by Jason Reeve and on Double Bass by Nick Pini.

Always a fabulous night out and in the wonderful Art Deco surroundings of the ex-billiard room of the Regent Palace Hotel and now part of Brasserie Zedel.
