It’s a busy few months ahead for RAM student Ben de Souza, now in his fourth undergraduate year! What a wonderfully varied set of concerts he has coming up.

Friday 4th May, 7:30pm, Royal Academy of Music, NW1 5HT – The Spirit of Tango with Mario Stefano Pietrodarchi. Tickets TBC.

Friday 18th (St David’s Hall, Cardiff) and Sunday 20th May (Royal Festival Hall, London). Both 7:30pm. Performances of Prokofiev’s Cantata for the 20th Anniversary of the October Revolution with the Philharmonia Orchestra, conducted by Vladimir Ashkenazy.…/voices_of_revolution_exile_

Saturday 26th May, 7:30pm, St John’s Downshire Hill, Hampstead, London, NW3 1NU – Solo accordion recital. Free entry (retiring collection).

Accordion Department Events for Spring 2017

A wonderful programme of concerts and masterclasses organised by the accordion department of the Royal Academy of Music this spring featuring no less than three visiting accordion professors from around the world.

Wednesday 3rd May 2.30 – 5.30 pm  Free – Accordion Lecture-Recital with Corrado Rojac, professor of accordion at the Giuseppe Tartini Conservatorio di Musica of Trieste, who gives his first UK lecture on The First Italian Accordion Method 1839 by Giuseppe Greggiati and plays some of the many pieces from the book.  This book, which feature rare original romantic repertoire written for the accordion, was first featured in an article by ZZ Music in 2015 (Read Article)


Tuesday 9th May 1.05 – 2.00 pm – Iosif Purits Recital in the David Josefowitz Recital Hall, Free (no tickets required).  Solo-chamber pairing of pieces with Cecilia Bignall on cello.  Programme details will be found on the online Events listings soon.


Monday 15th May 2.00 – 5.00 pm – Accordion Masterclass with Borut Zagoranski, Associate Professor of Accordion at the Academy of Music, University of Ljubljana, and Juraj Dobrila University of Pula.


Friday 19th May 7.30 pm – David Josefowitz Recital Hall – Tickets £7.50 (concessions £5.50) from the Academy’s Box Office.  CONCERT – Solo and chamber music works by JS Bach, Scarlatti, Piazzolla, Efrem Podgaits and Berio.


Thursday 22nd June 10.00 am – 1.00 pm Free (no tickets required) – Accordion Masterclass with Mie Miki, professor of accordion at the Folkwang University of the Arts, Essen.

On June 6th 2016, Iosif Purits  will play at the Wigmore Hall with , Cecilia Bignall (Cello), Amy Yule (Flute) and Seungwong Lee (Piano) for the Royal Academy of Music Patrons Award Winners’ Recital 2016

JS Bach, Sibelius, Hurel and more

£5 tickets are available for staff and students of the Royal Academy of Music. Please call the Wigmore Hall Box Office on 020 7935 2141 to book.

Duration: This concert will be approximately 2 hours in duration, including an interval

£15 Ticket bookings are subject to a £2.00 booking fee. This fee covers the whole booking and is not per ticket.

On June 9th 2016,Bartek Glowacki will play his final recital at the David Josefowitz Hall at the Royal Academy of Music at 17.45, followed by Iosif Purits  playing his final recital at 18.45.

ZZ Music wishes them well in the final recitals and concerts in their last year at the Royal Academy of Music.  They have been incredible students under the wonderful guidance of Owen Murray and it has been wonderful to watch them grow into very fine musicians whilst they have been studying in London.
