David Vaughan back at MAP Studio with Romano Viazzani and Daniel Broncano-4th November 2017

David Vaughan at MAP Studio

Singer-Songwriter David Vaughan at Romano Viazzani on Accordion and Daniel Broncano on Clarinet

David Vaughan is returning to the MAP Studio Café for a concert with his trio on Saturday 4th November. The trio’s debut there last April was easily one of his favourite gigs ever. It’s a uniquely bohemian centre for music, art and print (hence the name) tucked neatly away in the backstreets of Kentish Town. Those that came last time will know what a fabulous time was had by all with various corners to settle down in, including a great ground floor café. David ‘s unique songwriting style has great appeal and the combination of sounds this trio generates is always very evocative and alluring. Tickets are only £8 and can be purchased on the night or by calling 0207 916 0545. Doors open at 7.30pm and the concert begins at 8pm.

Singer-Songwriter David Vaughan is back at The Pheasantry, King’s Road, Chelsea, London on Tuesday 3rd May 2016 at 8.30pm for The London Festival of Cabaret. Vaughan draws inspiration from the European chanson tradition and uses a unique blend of musical instruments to paint a wonderful palette of musical colours which underpin his original songs. Romano Viazzani on accordion, Daniel Broncano on clarinet and bass clarinet, Jason Reeve on drums, Tom Hewins on tuba and double bass and of course Vaughan himself on piano, guitar, trumpet and vocals. His music cannot easily be categorised and since there are very few if any record shops left, all of which compartmentalised music into narrow genres and therefore influenced the categories of music one used to listen to, it doesn’t matter a jot. Come along and be pleasantly surprised at many musical traditions guide Vaughan’s songs. All songs are masterfully and imaginatively arranged by Vaughan himself to bring out the best in his instruments and this is especially evident in his wonderful recent album We’re on a holiday.

Tickets are £15 and available at https://www.pizzaexpresslive.com/whats-on/david-vaughan

David Vaughan – at Oliver’s Jazz bar 13th March 2015

David Vaughan Quintet

After a very successful CD launch at The Pheasantry David Vaughan is back at Oliver’s Jazz Bar on 13th March 2015, not as the larger ensemble that launched the CD which at times featured 6 musicians on the stage, but down to the trio-sized outfit in order to fit on the tiny stage at Oliver’s Jazz bar. As well as David Vaughan on Piano, Trumpet and Guitar, Romano Viazzani will be on accordion and Daniel Broncano on clarinet.  If you couldn’t get to The Pheasantry on February 24th then you can purchase the excellent new album fro this site. Whilst David Vaughan’s voice is undoubtedly coming from the world of Rock his own songs have a variety of influences and the album title We’re on a holiday is very apt as the album sometimes evokes urban Buenos Aires and sometimes the Italian countryside.  There are Jazz and Tango influences and Classical and Folk too.  David has created his very own style which thankfully, is not easily pigeon-holed into any pre-set musical genre which was a necessary evil in the days when you went to your local record shop to buy records and would immediately go to the to the Classical, Jazz or Pop sections of the store.  Vaughan arranges all his own music and stretches his musicians into roles they are not always cast in. The result is utterly charming and unique.  The CD, in it’s presentation is “old school” in that Vaughan generously includes a 12-page glossy booklet inside which includes all the lyrics of his songs as well as some great shots of the musicians at work.  For the album you also get many more musicians than the regular 5-piece set up of the aforementioned Vaughan, Viazzani, Broncano, along with Tom Hewins on Tuba and Double Bass and Jason Reeve on Drums.  There’s whole String quartet on one track, not to mention Flute/Piccolo, Dulcimer on other tracks.  The larger ensemble will be back in concert soon and watch this space for announcements in that regard.
